A NOTE FROM CHRISTOPHER
Playfulness is the spirit that infuses curiosity and spontaneity into every performance. The element of playfulness that can transform any moment into a delightful revelation and invite the audience to engage in the act of creation with the actor. This playfulness is paired with a permission to fail. I embrace failure in my creative process, and by doing so, I open myself to many possibilities. I bring these elements into my artistic process and performances to create a thoughtful, innovative, and exciting theatre.
Regarding my style, I’m a more physically centered actor. I use elements of mask, clown, Chekhov, Viewpoints, and more to initially enter my process. This physical form of exploring a character allows for the play I desire in my process. It also helps me truly experience their character journey. It places me in their shoes and allows me to explore the character’s psychology while also grounding them in strong elements of physical storytelling.
Collaboration is also at the core of my work. I believe theatre is only truly successful with it. When all the artists in the room work together in service of the play, brilliant art can be achieved. Innovative and exciting moments seed and grow in a collaborative environment. And the collaboration doesn’t end with the artists, it also includes the audience.
My career is in a liminal space as I as I move from the educational to the professional sphere. Before graduate school, I had just started getting back to acting when the pandemic unbalanced us all. I’m excited to work again both as an actor and as an educator. I strive to be a part of a theatre that is open to all and available to anyone who wants it.
